Blue Kite Writing Teacher,
Danielle Makrauer
Dear Parent,
We know that good writing is not only valued in the classroom. After all, if you can write well, you can draft an article, polish a cover letter, pen a story, or scribble in a journal. You can capture a mood, prove your point, convey a sentiment, or describe a memory. As a strong writer, not only can you open doors for yourself, but you can share the way you view this world with others. You can find your voice.
But, your child may not realize all of that just yet. He or she may only realize that writing well is hard. Perhaps your son is struggling to write English and history papers, or your daughter is dreading (nay, fearing) having to write her admissions essay. Or, maybe, when your child reads he says "I don't get it" and wonders how he can read a book and not really have read it. I can help.
Or, perhaps your child is a crackerjack English student who gets the highest grades in the class, talks about writing a novel, and reads for fun on the weekends. You are blessed. I can also help your child meet his or her goals.
As my student, you'll have the specific learning strategies you need to get started and ongoing support as we see a project through its stages. You'll have someone to help you muddle through your ideas and organize your thoughts. You'll be proud of your writing when you reach the end of an assignment on which you've worked so hard. Together, we'll get to experience a few of those magical moments when the pieces of the puzzle start fall into place, when writing becomes something much more than just an assignment.
Keep writing and reading,
Danielle Makrauer
